John Simmons (1823-1876), “Hermia and Lysander” |
Hello!
It’s time for Friday Fun!
Today is the Summer Solstice, which means 2 things to me
1. the longest day of light in the year
2. Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
In honor of the day, here’s a couple of excerpts from the play.
Fairy
Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I do wander everywhere,
Swifter than the moon’s sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green.
The cowslips tall her pensioners be:
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In those freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dewdrops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslip’s ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits; I’ll be gone:
Our queen and all our elves come here anon.
(Act 2, Scene 1)
Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind;
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.
(Act 1, Scene 1)
Happy Midsummer Night!
My best to you all,
Megan
